Affordable housing that supports independent living is key to prevention, supporting public services and tackling poverty and inequality – key priorities of government – but is independent living a key priority for the Scottish Government?
SFHA is hosting a roundtable for members on Tuesday 12 August from 14:00-16:00 to explore how housing can support independent living for older and disabled people. We’ll explore the challenges, opportunities, and policy changes needed to deliver accessible, adaptable homes that meet changing needs across Scotland.
We’re delighted to confirm that Billy McClean, Head of Community Health and Care Services at South Ayrshire HSCP and NHS Ayrshire and Arran, will be joining us as a speaker — bringing a crucial health and social care perspective to the discussion. The roundtable, chaired by Professor Vikki McCall, will bring members together to discuss:
- How we respond to the housing needs of an ageing population and rising levels of disability
- What solutions the sector can offer – and what’s holding us back
- Supporting accessibility, adaptability, and technology-enabled care
- The needs of both specialist and mainstream housing providers
- Who else we need to hear from to influence change
- What SFHA should call for ahead of the next Scottish Parliament election
