A highly respected figure in Scottish public service has been appointed as the new Chair of one of the country’s leading housing providers for older people.
Professor Margaret Whoriskey MBE has officially taken up the role of Chair at Hanover Scotland, following the departure of long-standing Chair, Margaret MacKay.
Hanover Scotland, which provides more than 5,000 homes for older people across the country, has welcomed the appointment as part of its ongoing commitment to good governance and tenant-focused leadership.
Professor Whoriskey brings with her extensive experience in health and social care, and a long-standing commitment to supporting older people across Scotland. Her background includes work in public service, clinical psychology, and senior roles in national programmes.
She previously led the Scottish Government’s Technology Enabled Care programme, playing a central role in expanding digital support tools across the country. She was also awarded an MBE in 2005 for services to people with mental health problems and learning disabilities.
Angela Currie, Chief Executive of Hanover Scotland, said: “We are pleased to welcome Professor Whoriskey as our new Chair. She has shown strong leadership throughout her career and brings a clear understanding of the challenges and opportunities we face in supporting older people.
“Margaret’s experience and perspective will be invaluable as we continue to adapt and evolve the services we provide across the country.”
Professor Whoriskey succeeds Gary Devlin, who stepped down from the role after years of dedicated service. Under his leadership, Hanover strengthened its position as a trusted and forward-thinking provider of housing and services for older people.
Angela Currie added: “We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Gary Devlin for his outstanding contribution over many years. His commitment and guidance have helped to steer Hanover through significant developments and challenges.”
The appointment marks a new chapter for Hanover Scotland, which has placed tenant engagement, value for money, and long-term planning at the heart of its strategy.
With Professor Whoriskey at the helm, the Board will continue to focus on effective governance and supporting the executive team in delivering the organisation’s goals.
