What will you be discussing at the conference?

My talk will contextualise the Passivhaus standards for Scotland by highlighting the specific socio-climatic challenges and the overheating risk of the changing climate.

What impact might a Scottish equivalent of Passivhaus have on development?

While the impact of a Scottish Passivhaus standard may not be negative in the short-term, care is needed to avoid unintended consequences of highly air-tight buildings in our climate.

What do we need to do more or less of to meet net zero carbon targets in development?

Over 80% of the buildings that will be in use in 2050 are already built, thus, the real challenge of decarbonising our buildings is the existing stock.  I will propose ways to address this in ways that are more in tune with the changing climate.
