Communication providers across the UK are in the process of upgrading their telephony networks moving from analogue to digital (ALL-IP) protocols.
Although the deadline to migrate the last telephone exchange is not until 2025 many exchanges have already switched or are in the process of switching.
The impact of this is that emergency call systems (i.e. group living/warden call systems), linked smoke alarms, emergency phones in lifts, intercom systems and any other equipment that you have that relies on an analogue telephony connection will stop working as soon as the exchange in your area is migrated.
There are increasing reports from across the country that vulnerable people are experiencing “failed calls” due to network upgrades meaning that they are unable to raise a call for help when they need to.
The TEC in Housing (TECH) programme is running a webinar for housing in partnership with the national Digital Telecare team.
The webinar Telecare: Analogue to Digital will be held via Microsoft Teams on Tuesday 30th March, 2pm-4.15pm
During the session issues and opportunities associated with the switch to digital will be discussed.
OpenReach, Digital Telecare and Social Landlords (RSL and Local authority) will be sharing their approaches and experiences.
We will also share plans for future engagement and collaboration with Housing providers.
The session is designed for senior housing managers with a responsibility for sheltered, very sheltered, supported and retirement living i.e. Care & Support Service managers, Asset managers, Strategic Planners, Digital / ICT and Tenancy engagement staff.
Places are free.
