Cairn Housing Association has appointed Shona Mitchell as Head of Public Affairs, Strategy and Communications to drive stronger policy influence and strategic direction.

In this newly created role, Shona will lead on shaping and delivering Cairn’s public affairs strategy, ensuring the organisation is well-positioned to respond to national and local policy developments.

The role also brings together the communications and performance functions, creating a joined-up approach which will help Cairn deliver on its strategic objectives and ensure the experiences and priorities of tenants are front and centre.

The appointment comes as part of some wider changes at Cairn, with a new Director of People and Insights joining the organisation shortly.

Shona brings a wealth of experience in communications, public affairs, and housing having held senior roles at Home Group and SFHA and also having worked as a journalist and within both the Scottish and European Parliaments.

Audrey Simpson, Cairn’s Chief Executive, said: “We are delighted to welcome Shona to the team. Her role will be vital in strengthening our strategic voice and deepening our engagement with key stakeholders and decision makers. Shona brings extensive experience and energy, and we look forward to the impact she can make alongside colleagues across Cairn.

“This role will play an important part in shaping our future direction and ensuring we are influencing on the issues that matter most to our tenants.”

Shona added: “It is great to be joining Cairn at a time of change and opportunity, both within the organisation and the housing sector as a whole.

“I look forward to working with colleagues and our partners to help shape policy, raise our profile, and keep the voices of tenants at the heart of everything we do.”
